Anvil Virgil Wood

Ancil Virgil Wood age 78 of Pine Knot, Kentucky passed from this life on Monday, August 31, 2026 at the U.K. Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. 

Born on March 9, 1948 in Cincinnati, Ohio, he is the son of the late Virgil Wood and Reba (Boyatt) Wood. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Darlene (Daley) Wood; his brothers, Theo Wood, Larry Wood and Tim Wood; and sisters, Mary Slavey, Julie Elaine Wood, and Linda Sue Wood. 

Surviving family include his sons, Ancil Troy Wood (and Rachel) of Hamersville, Ohio and Tony Troxell (and Stephanie) of Lexington, Kentucky; his daughters, Sandra Wood (and Matthew Sharits) of Whitley City and Lorie Watson of Amelia, Ohio; a brother, Lonnie Wood of Pine Knot; sisters, Willa Fay Lay (and James) of Pine Knot, Jeannette Wood also of Pine Knot, Wanda Myers also of Pine Knot, and Vicki Wood Lesh (and John) of Georgia; a grandson, Austin Kayser; and special nephews and niece, Lenville Carter, Steve Carter, and Rebecca Stephens. 

Ancil was a member of the Pine Knot Baptist Church. He was a vivid outdoorsman who enjoyed going camping, fishing, and out on the boat. Ancil also liked going to yard sales and flea markets to look for a deal and collecting guns. He had a kind heart and a kind soul, always seeing the positive in life and every situation. He made the world a much better place and never failed to say, he loved you. 

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2026 at 4:00 pm in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Bro. Dewayne Perry officiating. Burial to follow in the Pine Knot Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday after 2:00 pm until service time.
