Carrol Dean Kidd

November 28, 1936 — March 9, 2019

Carrol Dean (Martin) Kidd age 82 of Pine Knot, Kentucky, passed from this life on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

She was born December 27, 1936 in McCreary County, Kentucky to the late John and Otie (Ball) Martin. She is preceded in death by her husband, Hurstil Kidd, parents, and sisters, Gladys Lay and Glenna Kidd.

Surviving family include her sons, Gordon Kidd and wife, Marlene, and Jeffrey Kidd and wife, Cassonia; four grandchildren, Jonathan, Cameron, Tanner, and Lacey Kidd; three step-grandchildren, Joshua, Nicholas, and Ashton Sumner; two great-grandchildren, Savannah and Bennett Kidd; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Carrol graduated from Cumberland College and Eastern Kentucky University with a Master’s degree in Education. She was an Elementary School teacher, having taught for more than 35 years in school districts in Milford, Ohio, Campbell County, Kentucky, and McCreary County, Kentucky, spending most of her career at Pine Knot Elementary. She touched the lives of hundreds of students and leaves a lasting legacy.

Carrol and Hurstil married 1956 and were married for over 55 years, until his passing. Together, they enjoyed traveling, taking their family on long, cross country road trips, eventually visiting all 50 states. Carrol enjoyed reading, singing, playing the piano, and had sang in the choir of many churches she attended. She was a member of the Stearns First Baptist Church.

The family would like to express a special thank you to the employees of Signature Health and Rehabilitation Center for their care of Carrol over the past two years and to the family and friends who visited Carrol during her stay.  

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at 1:00 pm at the Pine Knot Funeral Home. Burial to follow in the Pine Knot Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday after 6:00 pm at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to Integrated Community Ministries or Stearns First Baptist Church in Carrol’s memory.

Pine Knot Funeral Home is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
