CHARLES ROBERT PIERCE

January 28, 1946 — June 4, 2008

Charles Robert Pierce, age 62, of Pine Knot, Kentucky, departed from this life on Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at the St. Mary's Scott County Hospital in Oneida, Tennessee.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 8, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Sewell and Rev. Bruce Dixon officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Pine Knot Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 a€" 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Robert was born January 28, 1946, in Barthell, Kentucky, to the late Jesse Oliver "J.O." and Nellie Hamby Pierce. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by a son Glen Edward Pierce who passed away on May 30, 1970, and two brothers Johnie and Jesse Willard Pierce. He is survived by his wife of 42 years Janice Sue Jones Pierce whom he married on July 23, 1965. They made their home in Pine Knot and have a daughter Jennifer "J.J." Barnettt and her husband Frank of Pine Knot. They have a granddaughter Joni Lowe and two great grandchildren Kayli and Morgan Lowe, and a special great nephew Cody Cox. Surviving brothers and sisters are Warren Pierce (his wife Helen) of Nicholasville, Kentucky, Ona Ison (her husband Lee is deceased) of Columbus, Georgia, Margaret King (her husband Herb) of Orange City, Florida, and Wilma Moses (and her husband Jimmy) of Huber Heights, Ohio.

Robert was a former park ranger at Cumberland Falls State Park and a security guard. He had been an entertainer at Tombstone Junction and both a former deputy sheriff and deputy jailer. He served in the United States Air Force and was a member of the Whitley City Church of God. He enjoyed gospel music and being around young people. In his earlier years before becoming disabled he liked to hunt and fish and going to stock car races.
