Danny Joe Sawyer

Danny Joe Sawyer age 67 of Pine Knot, Kentucky passed from this life on Thursday, December 4, 2025 at the Baptist Health of Lexington. 

He was born on October 24, 1958 in Stearns, Kentucky to Joe Sawyer and Betty (Strunk) Sawyer. 

His father precedes him in death. 

Surviving family include his mother, Betty Tapley (and Roy) of Whitley City; his life partner, Linda Cook of Pine Knot; children, Rachel Kaye Sawyer of Jacksonville, Florida, Paul Sziber (and Tiffany) of Strunk, and Ashley Gabbard (and Dave) of Parkers Lake; and grandchildren, Indi Sawyer, RiaLin Sziber, Jeremiah Laxton, Destiny Laxton, and a special granddaughter, Tiha Sziber.

Also surviving are sisters, Diane Temple of Morristown, Tennessee and Peggy McCartty of Somerset, Kentucky; and special friends whom he considered his brothers, Kevin Childers, Mike Slaven, and Dave Howe. 

Dan was a Mechanic by trade, but his true love was music. Being in "the dog house" most of the time means a man is in trouble, but for Dan, it was his favorite place to be. He and his brothers would gather in his to enjoy music, playing guitars and singing. Dan also enjoyed attending concerts, digging arrowheads and splunking. His unique personality, his priceless bellbottom work pants and doo-rag bandanas will be missed but always remembered. 

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Bro. Rufus Hughes officiating. Burial to follow in the Higginbotham Cemetery.
