Douglas McArthur Smith age 73 years, 1 month, and 8 days passed from this life on Friday, June 30, 2017 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

He was born on May 22, 1944 in Pine Knot, Kentucky to the late John Walker Smith and Alcie (Stephens) Smith. Doug made a living as a truck driver, driving a semi for most of his life. He enjoyed collecting guns and watching police stories and documentaries. Doug was a people person who enjoyed helping others. He also enjoyed visiting and spending time with people, especially his family and grandchildren, whom he loved so very much. 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Smith and several brothers and sisters.

Surviving family include his wife, Barbara (Braden) Smith of Pine Knot, Kentucky; sons, Brian Smith and Thomas “Tom” Smith (wife, Tanya) all of Indianapolis, Indiana; a daughter, Kimberly Gibson (husband, Keith) also of Indianapolis; brothers, Loran Smith (wife, Pat) of Floral City Park, Florida, and Carl Smith of Indianapolis; sisters, Juanita McKnight of Williamsburg, Kentucky, Bonnie Haynes of Oxford, Ohio, and Janet Crabtree (husband, Ronnie) of Revelo, Kentucky; grandchildren, Mark Brazis, Lisa Vanderbilt (Randy), Makayla Phillips (Josh), Emily, Luke, and Katie Smith; one great-granddaughter; Barbara’s children and grandchildren whom he loved as his own, Wesley Daugherty (Vicki) and their son, Denver Maness, Debbie Darding, her daughters, Jennifer Bryant, and Stephanie Mealy, and grandchild, Julain; Henry Craig Daugherty (Jennifer), and their children, Olivia, Braden, & Ryan Daugherty, and Jeremy Daugherty and his daughter, Linzy Daugherty. Also surviving is a host of nieces, nephews, and special friends whom Doug loved very much.

In keeping of Doug’s wishes, he was cremated.

Pine Knot Funeral Home assisted the family of Mr. Douglas Smith.
