Elsie G. Barrett, passed from this life on Thursday, July 12, 2012, at the McCreary Health and Rehabilitation Center in Pine Knot, Kentucky.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 15 at 2:00 p.m., in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Sewell officiating. She will be laid to rest at the Mill Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m.

Ms. Barrett was a retired school teacher with the McCreary County Schools. She was a member of the Marshes Siding Church of God and a noteworthy matron of the Eastern Star Chapter 288, Stearns, deputy grand matron of the State of Kentucky, honorary member of the following chapters of the Order of the Eastern Star: Somerset, Ch. 23, Monticello Ch. 526, Waynesburg Ch. 501, Woodstock Ch. 521, Russell Ch. 432, Casey Ch. 30, Nancy Ch 545, and Crab Orchard Ch. 568. She was a life member of the V.F.W., Oneida and a life member of the American Legion, Post 115, Stearns. She had served on the Advisory Board of Directors for Forcht Bank. Besides her love for her family and friends, she enjoyed traveling.

Born in Honeybee, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Delmer and Fay (Martin) Gilreath. Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband James Barrett, and two brothers Don Juan Gilreath and Russell Edward Gilreath. Surviving family include two sons Gary Logan Watters (and wife Marta) of Marshes Siding, Kentucky, and Kenny Creekmore of Knoxville, Tennessee, two brothers; Roger Gilreath and Delmer Gilreath, Jr., nieces and nephews; Shelly Gilreath, Zoe Gilreath, Rick Gilreath, Charles Gilreath, Marty Gilreath, Russell Gilreath, Shane Gilreath and several great nieces and nephews.

Elsie was one of the most loved persons that I have ever known. She was always delightful company and accepted anyone no matter if rich or poor. I will miss her chats,family information and laughter. She was a grand lady and loved by so many.
