Etta Lay

January 8, 1934 — November 8, 2017

Etta Weaver Lay age 83 of the Holly Hill Community, passed from this life on November 8, 2017 at the Williamsburg Health and Rehabilitation Center.  She is survived by her husband, Delmer Lay, whom she married on April 10, 1955.

She was born on January 8, 1934 in Jellico, Tennessee to the late Gilbert and Bertha (Perkins) Weaver. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Curtis Weaver, a sister, Beulah Fry, infant brothers, Lester Kyle and Wendell Lee, and an infant sister, Elsie Cleo.

Surviving family include her children, Joy Ball and husband, Rick of Holly Hill, Delmer Jr. and wife, Jennifer of Georgetown, Derrick Lay of Holly Hill, and longtime companion, Angela Eldridge, her daughter, Kristen Eldridge and granddaughter, Peyson Rae, Jonathan Lay and wife, Teresa of Holly Hill, and Alecia Stephens and husband, Jason, also of Holly Hill; 6 grandchildren, Jon Jon, Joshua, Emma, Josiah, and Abby Lay, and Palace Stephens; a brother, Verlin Weaver and wife, Linda, of Tallmadge, Ohio; and sisters, Vivian Murray of Lafollette, Tennessee and Lola Benge of Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

Etta was a strong woman of faith. She was saved in 1955 and was a faithful member of the Hayes Creek Church of God for 42 years.  She was also the Church Clerk for 30 years. Etta loved people and dedicated her entire life to caring for others, especially her family. She taught her children about God, taking them to church since they were infants. She served God, her church, her family and friends, and all who were blessed to have known her.  

Etta leaves behind a wonderful legacy, as a true example of the Proverbs 31 woman. She was a follower of Christ who lived a wonderful life marked with hard work, humor, humility, and a heart full of love.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at 1:00 pm at the Hayes Creek Church of God with Rev. Harvey Logan, Rev. William Kilby, and Rev. Steve Perry officiating. Burial is to follow in the T Chitwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 pm at the Pine Knot Funeral Home.
