Howard Phillips, age 80 years, 7 months and 2 days, passed away Saturday, August 17, 2019, at his home in the Clark Hollow community of Stearns, Kentucky.
He was born January 15, 1939, in McCreary County, Kentucky, the son of the late Albert and Zona (Gregory) Phillips. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers: Estel Phillips and Dean Phillips and four sisters: Zella Matthews, Dorothy Vaughn, Opal Roberts and Pearlie Jane Phillips.
Surviving family include his wife Thelma Phillips, three daughters: Elaine Stinson (David) of Monticello, Kentucky, Robin Stephens (Morris) of Winfield, Tennessee, and Susan Watson (Mark) of Monticello, 7 grandchildren: Leslie Ann Dunn, Eric Tucker, Beth Fry, Ashley Creekmore, James Coffey, Asher Stephens, Chelsea Watson, and Megan Rawlins, and 10 great grandchildren: Katielynn, Ethan, Conner, Holden, Mollie, Allie, Shantay, Shayla, Makala and Dylan.
Surviving brothers and sisters are: Hewey Phillips (Alma) of Stearns, Jimmy Phillips (Teddean) of Muncie, Indiana, Helen Faye Tucker of Stearns, Lorean Roberts (Jeff) of Whitley City, and Beulah Jackson of Somerset, Kentucky.
Howard had been self-employed as a logger and was a member of the Cedar Grove United Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing but mostly his family time. He loved people and having company and his friends lovingly called him the Mayor of Clark Hollow. He will be sadly missed by all that knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 20, 2019, at the Cedar Grove United Baptist Church with Bro. David Vaughn and Bro. Rick Bell officiating. Burial will follow at the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be after 5:00 p.m. Monday at the church.
The family has requested that memorials be made to the Cedar Grove Cemetery Fund at the United Cumberland Bank.
Pine Knot Funeral Home is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
