HURSTIL KIDD

November 25, 1933 — January 7, 2012

Mr. Hurstil Kidd, age 78, of Pine Knot, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, January 07, 2012, at the Scott County Hospital, in Oneida, Tennessee.

Funeral services will be held Monday, January 9, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Rev. William Kilby and Rev. Daniel Whiteman officiating. Interment will be at Pine Knot Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 6 a€" 9 p.m.

Born November 25, 1933, in Revelo, Kentucky, he was the son of James David and Madge Stephens Kidd and the stepson of Arnetta Kidd, who precede him in death. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carrol Dean Martin Kidd, of Pine Knot, two sons Gordon (and Marlene) Kidd of Pine Knot, Jeffrey (and Cassonia) Kidd of Whitley City, four grandchildren: Jonathan, Cameron, Tanner and Lacey Kidd and three step-grandchildren; Joshua, Nicholas and Ashton Sumner, two sisters Edna Reynolds of Highland Heights, and Evalee Ross of Marshes Siding and half-sister Sharyan (and Dexter) McKinney of Monticello along with several nieces and nephews whom he also loved.

Hurstil was a very giving and caring person, a good husband and father. Having lost his mother at the age of two, he and his sisters Edna and Evalee went to live with his grandparents. Family was very important to Hurstil. He spearheaded several Stephens family reunions over the years, which he enjoyed very much.

He ran his own business; Kidd Heating Oil and Tire Shop in Revelo from 1973 until his retirement in 1993. He built a successful business which was later taken over by family members. Customer service was very important to him and helped contribute to his success. He often took his life into his own hands during many snowy winters over dangerous roads, in a truck loaded with heating fuel so that his customers and their families could stay warm and safe. Hurstil enjoyed traveling and visited all 50 states. Most of all, he enjoyed his family and took great interest in genealogy. He and Carrol were members of the Stearns Baptist Church. He was honored to have served his country in the United States Army from 1954 a€" 1956.

Pine Knot Funeral Home is assisting the family of MR. Hurstil Kidd in his funeral arrangements.
