Hurstle Daugherty

March 16, 1944 — May 30, 2021

Rev. Hurstle Daugherty age 77 of the Marshes Siding Community, passed from this life on Sunday, May 30, 2021 at his home.

He was born March 16, 1944 in Pine Knot, Kentucky to the late Lawrence Daugherty and Virginia Mae (Branham) Daugherty. In addition to his parents, Hurstle is preceded in death by his son, Timothy Bryan Daugherty, a brother, Steven Daugherty, and sisters, Thelma Daugherty and Leona Barrett.

Surviving family include his wife, Betty (Worley) Daugherty whom he married, October 23, 1964; daughters, Paula Daugherty Jones and husband, Tim, of Marshes Siding and Michelle King and husband, Ronald, of Strunk, Kentucky; grandchildren, Ronald “Ronnie” King, Caitlin King (fiancé, Ryan Branham), Dawson Lynch, Garrett Jones, and Timothy Allen Jones; and a great-grandson, Memphis Jones.

Also surviving are Hurstle’s brothers, Henry Daugherty of Whitley City, Terry Daugherty of Arizona, Randy Daugherty, Jerry Daugherty, Bernard Daugherty, and Walter Edward “Eddie” Daugherty, all of Oregon, and sisters, Ann Sigler and Mildred Kidwell also of Oregon.

At the age of 31, Hurstle dedicated his life to the Lord and shortly after, he began preaching God’s word. Hurstle served as the Pastor of the Marshes Siding Church of God for 30+ years. Hurstle was proud to serve the Lord and be a light to others. He loved nothing more than sharing his faith to everyone.  

Hurstle was a Veteran of the United States Navy. In addition to Pastoring, Hurstle was well known for “Marshes Corner Market”, which he and wife, Betty, owned and operated for 37 ½ years. At home, Hurstle enjoyed wood working and being in the garden, especially with his roses. He also enjoyed going fishing and being with his family. Hurstle will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 4, 2021 at 1:00 pm at the Marshes Siding Church of God. Burial is to follow in the Worley Family Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the American Legion Post #115 of Stearns, KY.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday after 6:00 pm in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home. Hurstle will lie in state on Friday after 10:00 am until service time at the church.
