Hurstle I Smith

March 8, 1929 — December 3, 2019

Hurstle I. Smith age 90 of Eaton, Ohio, formerly of Stearns, KY, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 3, 2019.

He was born in Revelo, KY on March 8, 1929 to his parents, Hastin D. & Rilda J. (Burke) Smith who have preceded him in death along with 4 brothers, Howard, Earl, Othel, and Odie Smith; and a sister, Elsie Tolliver.

Hurstle is survived by his wife of 71 years, Rita P. (Taylor) Smith; 4 children, Donnie H. Smith (wife, Florence), Roger N. Smith (wife, Ann), Patricia Ann Czeiszperger (husband, John), and Robert H. Smith (wife, Pamela); also one brother, Noble Smith (wife, Joyce); 9 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great children.

Hurstle lived a full life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors. He served as Deputy Sheriff for 4 years, McCreary County Supervisor of Soil and Water Conservation for 20 years, and a tool maker with Delco Products for 30 years. Hurstle was proud to have achieved the honorable status of Kentucky Colonel. He was longtime standing member of the First Baptist Church of Whitley City and current member of the Grace Baptist Church in Dayton, Ohio. Hurstle was also a member of the Farmersville Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star. Above all, Hurstle was a Christian man (Deacon) who loved serving people and loved his family.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at 1:00 pm in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Rev. Donnie Smith officiating. Burial is to follow in the Pine Knot Cemetery. The family of Mr. Smith will receive friends on Tuesday after 12:00 noon until service time.
