JAMES CURTIS CORNETT

Mr. James Curtis "Jimmy" Cornett, age 75, of Strunk, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2011 at his home on the Murphy Ridge Road.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 17, 2011, in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Rev. James Johnson officiating. Special music will be provided by Jeff Leydig. Visiting hours will be from 2 a€" 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment services are scheduled for Tuesday, July 19 at 10:00 a.m. at the Oak Lawn Cemetery in Baltimore, Maryland.

Born September 5, 1935, in Dione, Harlan County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Robert and Dollie Johnson Cornett. Also preceding him in death is a son James Curtis Cornett, Jr. who passed away in 1987, five brothers; Tony, Earl, Kyle, Buddy and Thomas Cornett, and two sisters Anna Mae and Midge.

Surviving family include his wife Beverly Simms Cornett of Strunk whom he married January 16, 1960 in Baltimore. He has two daughters Lorraine Penny Barrett (and husband Billy) of Strunk, and Jacqueline A. Amos also of Strunk. Surviving sisters are Molly Leydig of Strunk and Betty Sue Smith of Whitley City, and a brother Merlin Cornett of Greencastle, Pennsylvania.

Mr. Cornett was a machinist having retired from Crown Cork and Seal in Baltimore. He belonged to the machinist union, several bowling leagues and the Moose Lodge. After retirement James and Beverly moved to McCreary County to make their home.
