Joseph Luster "Joe" Murphy, age 63, passed away Friday, June 8, 2012 at his home in Revelo, Kentucky.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 11 at 12 noon in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Rev. Tony Zachery and Rev. Dale G. Smith officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 a€" 9 p.m. Burial will be at the Jones Cemetery in Strunk, Kentucky.

Joe was retired from Illinois Cereal Mills in Indiana. He was proud to have served his country in the United States Army and was in the Vietnam conflict. He enjoyed traveling, and flower gardening. He loved his family and cherished his grandchildren. He was considered as the Rock of the family.

Born April 10, 1949 in Strunk, Kentucky, he was the son of Luster and Lora Mae (Miller) Murphy. He is preceded in death by his father, Luster Murphy, and a brother James Murphy. Surviving family include his mother Lora Mae (Miller) Murphy, Pine Knot, three daughters; Venessa Smith and Tim of Oneida, Tennessee, Vicky Laxton (and Mark Terry) of Oneida, and Kristy Murphy (and Kelsie Phillips) of Helenwood, Tennessee. There are five sisters; Mary Burchfield and Carl, Muncie, Indiana, Wanda Worley and Danny, Revelo, Bonnie Bell and Curtis of Monticello, Kentucky, Brenda Taylor (and Daniel Stringer) of Somerset and Paula Martin (and Tony Crowley) of Pine Knot. He has three surviving brothers; Charles Murphy, Stearns, L.D. Murphy and Ruth Ann of Muncie, Indiana and Larry Murphy and Kim of Muncie. Joe had four grandchildren; Caleb Phillips, Calvin Smith, Daniel Smith and Brandi Laxton. He also has many nieces and nephews and friends who will truly miss him including his best friend Terry Hardwick.

Pine Knot Funeral Home is assisting the family of Joe Murphy in his funeral arrangements.
