Larry Edwin Loudermilk age 81 of Whitley City, Kentucky passed away peacefully on Monday, March 9, 2026 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset.
Larry was born on September 12, 1944 in Fayette County, Kentucky, to Matthew and Bernice (Clark) Stephens. He spent many years teaching math at McCreary Central High School and McCreary County High School. Larry cared about his students and worked hard to help them learn and succeed. Many will remember Larry from his years teaching math and the impact he had on students in McCreary County.
Larry was a faithful member of the Whitley City Church of God. His faith and love for his family were very important parts of his life.
Larry loved sports and grew up playing in different leagues for softball and basketball. That love for sports stayed with him throughout his life. He loved cheering on his favorite teams and was a big fan of the Kentucky Wildcats, the Houston Rockets, and the McCreary Central Raiders. Larry was also known for being the biggest Reed Sheppard fan in the world.
Larry loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. Over the last 20 years, you could usually find him sitting on the bleachers in a gym or at a baseball field watching and supporting them. He enjoyed taking them to practices, watching them play, and even getting out there and playing with them himself.
Larry also loved spending time with his wife, Loraine. The two of them enjoyed going out to eat at different restaurants, watching Hallmark movies together, and relaxing at home watching Deal or No Deal. Larry also liked going to the Senior Citizens building where he could visit and laugh with his friends.
If there was a need to be met, Larry was always willing to help. If someone needed something, Larry would do whatever he could to help them. That was just the kind of man he was.
More than anything, Larry loved his family. Being a husband, dad, and grandfather meant the world to him. His greatest joy was spending time with them and being there for the moments that mattered.
In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his daughter, Daphne Renee Lozé; his sister, Sue Smith (Ed); and his niece, Kathy Rampy.
Larry is survived by his loving wife, Loraine (Watters) Loudermilk of Whitley City; his son, Bryson Loudermilk (Angela) of Stearns; his son-in-law, George Lozé; his grandchildren, Noah Loudermilk (Emily), Daniel Loudermilk, and Megan Loudermilk; and his great-grandchild, Judah Loudermilk. He also leaves behind many friends, former students, and family members who will miss him very much.
Many will remember Larry from the classroom where he taught math for many years, while others will remember him sitting on the bleachers, proudly cheering on his grandkids.
Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at the Whitley City Church of God. Burial will follow in the Whitley City Church of God Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the church.
