LARRY RAY THOMPSON

Mr. Larry Ray Thompson, age 69, of Revelo, Kentucky, passed from this life on Monday, January 7, 2013, at the Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin, Kentucky.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 11, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Bro. David West officiating. Burial will be at the Pine Knot Fire Department lot by the Pine Knot Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6 a€" 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Full fireman's honors will be delivered at the visitation, the funeral and the committal service.

Larry was fire chief at the South McCreary Fire Department for 26 years and was the Chairman of the Board. He had a total of 45 years of service in the fire department which was originally the McCreary Fire Protection District. In 1972 he became chief and in 1974 the Pine Knot department was started. Larry was a railroad engineer 23 years. He worked for the Big South Fork Scenic Railroad and worked for K & T Railroad bringing coal out of the mines.

Born October 3, 1943, in Whitley City, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Estel and Lucille (Strunk) Thompson. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter Ann Thompson.

Surviving family include his wife Molly M. (Stephens) Thompson, his children Jeff Wells (and Melissa) of Pine Knot, Lynn Simpson (and Don) of Pine Knot, L.A. Thompson of Revelo, Mollie Thompson of Revelo and Christine Ross his adopted daughter of Revelo. His sisters are Vonda Lewis (and Morris) of Cumberland, Kentucky, Wilma Thompson (and Bill) of Science Hill, Kentucky and brother Allen Thompson (and Betty) of North Vernon, Indiana, as well as all his brothers on the South McCreary Fire and Rescue. Larry and Molly had seven grandchildren; Wendy Walker (and David), Heather Vaughn (and Tyler), Jennifer Anderson, Franki Spradlin, Andrew Wells, Rachel Wells and Jacob Genoe, and eight great grandchildren.
