Lillian Essie Johnson

Lillian Essie Johnson age 89 of Pine Knot, Kentucky passed from this life on Friday, November 4, 2022 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. 

She was born July 15, 1933 in Strunk, Kentucky. Oldest of 11 children born to Prince Ledford Stephens and Nancy Tavy (Richardson) Stephens. She was a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church until her illness. 

Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband, Herbert W. Johnson, and a son, Edward Johnson; two sisters, Dillie Wells and Polly Spradlin; three brothers, Kelly Stephens, Gaylon Stephens, and Gregory Stephens. 

Surviving family include her brother, Elvis Stephens of Virginia; sisters, Betty McDavid of Burlington, Kentucky, Myrtle Berding of Arkansas City, Kansas, Reda Garland of Stearns, and Bonnie West of Pine Knot; and granddaughters, Julia Johnson of Rhode Island and April Edwards of Somerset. 

Essie was a true Christian, she loved and helped people along the way of life. She was Valedictorian of her class and was so talented. She sewed, crocheted, and crafted many beautiful things. 

Her family of many nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters, cousins and friends looked up to her and she will be sorely missed. 

Funeral service will be held on Monday, November 7, 2022 at 3:00 pm in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home. Burial is to follow in the Bethel Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation on Monday after 1:00 pm until service time.
