Maedean Sumner

Maedean Sumner, 70 Marshes Siding, Kentucky, entered eternal life on Monday,  September 11, 2018, after fighting a brave battle, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born August 24, 1948 in Jellico Tennessee.  She was the only daughter of Leslie and Delca Martin.  She had two brothers: Kenneth (Judy) Martin of Helenwood, Tennessee and Eugene Martin (deceased).

Maedean was the loving wife of Gerald Sumner for 49 years.  She and Gerald have two daughters Renee (Eric) Haynes, and Amy (Mike) Strunk all of whom reside in Marshes Siding, Kentucky.  She had five grandchildren who were the joy of her life.  She was their “life cheerleader”, Seth (Brooke) Haynes, Adrionna (Adam) Simpson, Dylan, Ally, and Addy Strunk.  She also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews.

Maedean taught business education classes in the McCreary County School System for 32 years.  After retiring she became full time partner and business manager of Sumner Excavating.  Her inner beauty, strength, kindness, passion and love has forever impacted many students and could never be forgotten.  She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Guestbook

Just heard about Maedean today. So sorry for your loss. She was my 2nd cousin. My Dad (Lewis Martin) was her great uncle. She and I had just reconnected on FB after many years. Was secretary at PKHS when she taught. Not very many of the Martin side left. Prayers for you all! May God watch over and guide you during this time. Heaven gained a perfect angel.

Though much time may have passed since our school years, there are teachers that fondly stay in our hearts & minds. They not only taught us certain subjects but life lessons as well. Their love for teaching shows in the way they care for their students. Mrs. Sumner was one of those special teachers. I feel very blessed to have been her student. Prayers to Renee and all the family. May God bless you all.
