Maurice "Gil" Wayne Bryant

November 29, 1947 — August 4, 2021

Maurice Wayne Bryant (Gil) November 29, 1947 – August 4, 2021

Maurice “Gil” Bryant, age 73, peacefully transitioned from Earth to Heaven on August 4, 2021 at his home in Miami Lakes, Florida.

Preceding him in death are his parents Maynard and Betty Bryant and a brother, Raymond Bryant, of Pine Knot, Kentucky.

Born on November 29, 1947, Maurice was the third of four children born to Maynard and Betty. He leaves to cherish his memory, his sister, Norma Smith, his brother, Marcus Bryant, his aunt, Gladys Bryant Bruce, and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.

No greater father and “poppa” than Maurice. He leaves to honor and cherish his memory, his daughters, Tiffany Bryant and Tina Bryant Ruff (and Stephen), and his beloved granddaughter, Bethany.

After graduating from Pine Knot High School in 1965, Maurice attended the University of Southern Mississippi, earning his BS in Education. Later he attended Florida International University where he earned his MS in Industrial Arts.

Maurice spent his life in service to others. During his 45-year career as a teacher and program director for the Miami Jackson Senior High Architectural/Design Magnet Program, Maurice mentored many of our country’s leading architects. As a member of Christ Journey Church (Coral Gables, FL), he served faithfully each Sunday as a greeter and usher and also spent many weekends and holidays supporting mission-related activities. Above all, Maurice loved God and he loved his family.

On the morning of August 4th, Maurice heard our Heavenly Father say, “Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!” (Matthew 25:23)

In keeping of Maurice’s wishes, he was cremated. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Higginbotham Cemetery.

Pine Knot Funeral Home is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
