McARTHUR SWAIN

January 7, 1944 — August 8, 2010

McArthur Swain, age 66, of Whitley City, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, August 8, 2010. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 12, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Rev. Daniel Ridener officiating. Burial will be at the Swain Memorial Gardens on the Day Ridge Road in Whitley City. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 a€" 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Swain had worked in law enforcement for nearly 29 years. He was a former McCreary County sheriff serving from 1994 a€" 1999, and previously served as deputy sheriff as well as constable of District 1 of McCreary County. He was a member of The Fraternal Order of Police and the Kentucky Sheriff's Association.

Born January 7, 1944, he was the son of the late Albert and Carrie Vanover Swain. Also preceding him in death are three brothers Leslie, Elvis, and Edward Swain and a sister Ivory Pearl Swain. On August 1, 1975 he was united in marriage to Connie Hill Swain and had four daughters: Rebecca Horne (and husband Joe) of Whitley City, Jennifer Swain of Greenwood, Kentucky, Linda Kever of South Carolina, and Lillian Canada of Williamsburg, Kentucky. The Swains were blessed with 10 grandchildren: Siera, Gavin, Hailey, Carra, Riley, River, Elliot, Ashley, Katie and Raymond, and four great-great grandchildren.

Other family members include two brothers Everett "Jody" Swain of Parkers Lake, Eddie Allen Swain of Sidney, Ohio and five sisters: Faye Griffis of Wiburg, Fontella Ridner of Parkers Lake, Virginia "Jimbo" Vanover, Diane Ridener and Joyce Goodin all of Parkers Lake.
