Norma Jean Childers

Norma Jean Childers age 95 of Whitley City, Kentucky passed from this life on Thursday, February 26, 2026 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

She was born on March 29, 1930 in Whitley City, Kentucky to the late Roscoe Stephens and Esther (Ballew) Stephens. 

In addition to her parents, Jean is preceded in death by her husband, Howard Childers; her daughter, Patricia "Pat" Spradlin; brothers, Jim Stephens, Robert Stephens, and Merrell Stephens; and a brother-in-law, Jim Worley. 

Surviving family include her sister, Ruth Ann Worley of Whitley City; a brother, Gary Stephens (and Jean) of Somerset; a sister-in-law, Sue Stephens Sears (and David) of Somerset; several nieces including these special few, Lisa Stephens, Debbie Stephens, Rhonda Atwood, Mary Priester, and a very special niece, Jamee Stephens; several nephews including these special few, Stanley Stephens, Rocky Stephens, and Dustin Stephens; and a very special friends, Sharlet Bryant. 

Jean was of the Church of God Faith. She enjoyed going camping, shopping, and traveling. In past time, she worked in Bookkeeping for the Bank of McCreary County. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.  

Funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 3, 2026 at 1:00 pm in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home. Burial to follow in the Pine Knot Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday after 12:00 noon until service time at the funeral home.
