ORVILLE EDWARD PERKINS

February 3, 1937 — September 14, 2015

Orville Edward Perkins, age 78, passed from this life on Monday, September 14, 2015, at his home in Pine Knot, Kentucky. 

Mr. Perkins was born in the Jellico Creek Community of Whitley County, Kentucky, on February 3, 1937, to Chester and Flossie Douglas Perkins.  He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister: Eulamae West, a brother, Oscar Perkins, five brothers-in-law: Walter Caddell, Edwin Bryant, Lewis, Maynard (Asia) and Virgil (Eleanor) Manning and two sisters-in-law: Patsy Manning and Margaret Glancy.

He was united in marriage in McCreary County, Kentucky, on October 29, 1955, to Gloria Sue Manning who survives.  They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this October.  He has a brother W.A. (and Pat) Perkins and three sisters: Edna Faye Caddell, Genevieve Bryant, Velma (and Harry) Kegley and a sister-in-law Doris Perkins all of Hamilton County, Ohio, and a brother-in-law Allen West of Whitley County Kentucky.  There are also many nieces, nephews, other family members and dear friends.

Orville retired in 1993 from General Electric Company Jet Engine Division in Evendale Ohio.  Their lives have centered around family and church.  They lived in Norwood, Ohio and worshiped and served for 38 years at their home church there, New Bethel Baptist. In 1995 they came home to McCreary County and again back to Bethel Church where they have been members for the past 20 years.

Orville was proud of his military service in the Army in the defense of his country in 1960-63.  He was deployed to Metz, France during the Berlin Buildup in 1962.  He enjoyed mowing grass and taking care of the Bethel Cemetery.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 18, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the Bethel Church.  Burial will be at the Bethel Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Pine Knot Funeral Home.
