OBITUARY FOR RICHARD THOMPSON

Mr. Richard Thompson, age 67, of Stearns, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2006, at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 25, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Rev. Lance Lay and Bro. Bobby Crisp officiating. Special music was provided by the Buddy Jones Singers. Mr. Thompson was laid to rest at the Angel Cemetery in Stearns.

He was born in McCreary County, on August 4, 1938, a son of the late Edgar and Ora Jones Thompson. Also preceding him in death is a brother Vernon Thompson.

He leaves behind his wife of 43 years, Wilma Ross Thompson whom he married on April 28, 1962. They made their home in Stearns and had two children: Richard Anthony (and his wife Linda) of Whitley City, and Karen Lynn Phillips (and her husband Tony) of Stearns. There are two surviving brothers, Glen Thompson of Crittenden, KY and Lloyd Thompson of Muncie, IN, and six sisters, Pauline Foust and Viola Kelly of Cincinnati, OH, Helen Thompson of Salem, IN, Millie Smith of Muncie, IN, Joan Adams of Ligonier, IN and Elizabeth Foster of Stearns. Richard and Wilma were blessed with five grandchildren: Christopher Sullivan, Brandon Phillips, Tiffany and Brittany Thompson and Harley Danielle Thompson, and one great grandchild Alexandria Lee Ann Sullivan.

Richard was a retired coal miner having worked for Stearns Coal and Lumber Company and Blue Diamond Mining Company. He served God as a member of the Mountain View Baptist Church. His favorite pastime was rabbit hunting and racing beagles. He took much pleasure in gardening and outdoor work. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and family and was good at raising beautiful flowers.
