RILEY A. (RAY) PRIVETT

Riley A. (Ray) Privett, age 76, of Pine Knot, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at the University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center in Lexington.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Bro. Carl Henson and Bro. Bill King officiating. He will be laid to rest at the King Meadows Cemetery in Pine Knot with committal service by Bro. Johnny Perry. The family will receive friends Friday evening after 6:00 at the funeral home.

Born September 2, 1937 at Marsh Creek, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Jesse and Grace (Stephens) Privett. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by three brothers; Frank, Ed and Ruben Privett and three sisters; Beulah King, Bertie Branham and Rhoda Brown.

Surviving family include his wife Melba (King) Privett of Pine Knot, whom he married in Jellico, Tennessee on April 23, 1960, his son Clellie (and Sharon) Privett of Pine Knot, daughters; Sharon Gooch and Melissa Walker both of Pine Knot, brother J.D. Privett of Strunk, sisters Laura Brown of Pine Knot and Josie Tapley of Strunk, six grandchildren; Jeremy, Kacey, Shannon, Natasha, Justin and Rachelle, and eight grandchildren; Macey, Bubba, Hank, Peyton (deceased), Brianna, Sidney, Shawna, and Skyla. He also leaves behind his church family and special friends Allen and Martha Wilson of Georgia and Harold and Pat Phillips of Pine Knot.

Ray and Melba had worked side by side for 53 years. They worked in the log woods, in three different slaughter houses and at the American Bag Company. For 40 years, he worked as custodian for the Meadows Grove Baptist Church. He loved his church and enjoyed taking care of it. He also enjoyed gardening, car races and trips to the mountains. Most of all he loved his family and they in return cherished him.
