Mr. Ronald Dean King, age 61, of Pine Knot, Kentucky, passed from this life on Thursday, August 09, 2012, at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset.
Funeral services with fireman honors will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Rev. Randall Mays and Rev. Clay Cook officiating. He will be laid to rest at the Wright Cemetery. Serving as pall bearers will be the firemen from South McCreary Fire Department and honorary pall bearers will be the staff of Quest Services. The family will receive friends Sunday from 9:30 a.m. until funeral time.
Ronald was born April 17, 1951, in Oneida, TN. His parents were the late James Logan and Edna (Strunk) King. He is also preceded in death by a sister Shanda Martin. Surviving family include his wife Pat (Wilson) King of Pine Knot, whom he married June 14, 1970 at the Pine Knot Baptist Church. Ronald and Pat have a daughter Tina Renaee Crabtree and son-in-law Jess Crabtree. Their granddaughter is Star Shenaee Crabtree, all of Pine Knot. Ronald's brothers are James Willis King (and Norma) of Pine Knot, Ralph King (and Ruth) of Cabot, Arkansas, Lindell King (and Debbie), Pine Knot, Dale King (and Carmen), Newport News, Virginia, and sisters; Sheila King (and Darrell) of French Lick, Indiana, and Sue Cornett (and Bristo) of Pine Knot. He also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews whom he loved so much,
Ronald graduated from Pine Knot High School in 1969 where he enjoyed playing baseball and basketball. He also attended Somerset Vocational School. Some of his hobbies were hunting and fishing. He worked for Tibbal's Flooring Company, Gilreath's Carpentry, Ryan's Creek Coal Company and Stearns Mining Company. On October 1, 1975, at the age of 24 Ronald was seriously injured in a mining accident were he became totally disabled. One of Ronald's favorite passions was being a Lieutenant in the Pine Knot Volunteer Fire Department.
