ROSE KIDD

Rose S. Kidd, age 87, of Somerset, Kentucky, formerly of Pine Knot, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at Baptist Health Lexington.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 3, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Rev. Telford Tanksley and Rev. Harvey Logan officiating.  Special music will be provided by Kathy Joy Daugherty.

Burial will be at Pine Knot Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until time for services.

Mrs. Kidd was born in Creekmore, Kentucky, of November 23, 1926.  Her parents were John P. and Leuna (Creekmore) Stephens.  She was married to George Kidd on June 28, 1949, and they had four children.  She is preceded in death by her parents John and Leuna Stephens, a daughter Kathy Lavern Kidd who passed away August 6, 1950, a brother Frances Asbury Stephens and an infant brother Hobert Stephens, and a sister Daisy Pearl Conder and an infant sister Ruth Stephens. 

Surviving family include her husband George Kidd of Pine Knot, two daughters; Sharon Roberts (and husband Dewane) of Loudon, Tennessee, and Janice Waters (and husband Jack) of Somerset, Kentucky, a son, Stephen Paul Kidd of Hebron, Kentucky, eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Rose was a member of the Hayes Creek Church of God.  She had been a school teacher at both Smithtown Elementary and Pine Knot Elementary.  She retired from McCreary County Schools in 1980, but continued as a substitute teacher.  She was an avid reader, and gardening was her favorite hobby.  She was a wonderful cook and her greatest passion was caring for her family and she considered the community her family.  Her love, compassion and concern for people was by far her greatest attribute.
