Samuel Lee Anderson, age 47, of Strunk, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2014, at the U.T. Hospital in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Sam was retired from the United States Navy as a highly decorated Aviation Ordinance Chief.  His last deployment was on the USS Theodore Roosevelt Aircraft Carrier.  He worked as a lead forest technician for the Daniel Boone National Forest.  He was a member of the Flat Rock Baptist Church, the National Wild Turkey Federation, the N.R.A., the VFW Post 5669, the Eastern Star, and the Masonic Lodge.

He was born August 29, 1967, in Memphis, Tennessee, to Palace O. Anderson and Patricia Jean (Braden) Norman.  He is preceded in death by his father.

Surviving family include his wife Danna (Henry) Anderson of Strunk, Kentucky, his children; Chasery Sexton (and Tracie) of Paint Rock, Tennessee, and Ryan Palace Anderson of Strunk, Kentucky, his grandchildren; Cheserae and Jacelynn Sexton, his mother; Patricia Jean (and Robert “Bob”) Norman, and a sister Penny Phillips (and Tim) of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 11, 2014, at 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Rev. Norman Burke and Rev. Don Hughett officiating.     Visitation will be Saturday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  An Eastern Star service will be held at 7:00 p.m. and a Masonic service will be held at 7:30p.m. Saturday evening.  Burial will be at the Anderson Cemetery in Strunk, Kentucky at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, October 12, 2014.

I am so sorry for your loss. I didn't know Sam, but he was and is a Chief Petty Officer, so that makes us brothers and family.

RIP Brother Sam. Stand down. Your watch is now over. Your fellow Chiefs have the watch now.

I am sorry for your loss.  I read about this on the Facebook group for Chief Petty Officers.  This really hits home for me as I was an AOC and in G-1 at one time, different ship, I now work for US Fish and Wildlife.  We have similar lives.  I am very so sorry he was taken at such a young age. My blessings and prayers to your family.
